To transfer DRM protected music to your computer, follow these steps...

  2. Connect your iPod or iPhone to your computer via the USB cable.
  3. Select the DRM protected music you wish to copy and then click either "Copy to iTunes" or "Copy to PC".
Download TouchCopy Now

Further Information

Songs in the song list that are protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) are highlighted with a lock icon. TouchCopy will still copy and transfer these files but you can only play them if you have the correct rights to do so. These are songs that you will have purchased on the iTunes music store.

Please ensure your computer is authorized with your iTunes music store account before transfering your music back into your iPod.

In iTunes select Store->Authorize Computer... from the menu. Sometimes, iTunes get confused. So if the Menu only displays "Deauthorize Computer" select that. Then select "Authorize Computer".

How can I tell whether I need TouchCopy or iBackup Extractor?

@Dave Stancil TouchCopy is recommend if you have access to the device containing the content that you wish to copy. Otherwise, iBackup Extractor is recommended if you no longer have access to the device but have a backup of the device available on your computer.

Please note that TouchCopy is able to transfer your music from your device whereas music is not stored in backups and as such cannot be transferred using iBackup Extractor.

@Rhett TouchCopy should show all of your tracks on your device regardless of if it is in demo version of purchased version. Please check that the files that are not showing play correctly. If not then this might be why they are not appearing. It could also help to check you are viewing all of your songs in TouchCopy and not use purchased or playlists. If the problem continues please contact our Helpdesk.

I Want to verify that TouchCopy will transfer songs loaded from CD's to my iTunes library on my iPod (downloaded originally from old computer). I ask this because when I loaded the free trial version only songs that had been purchased from iTunes store on the iPod showed up on computer #2. Most of my library was composed of songs loaded from CD's. Thanks.

Please try copying over files in a selection at a time. TouchCopy will produce a report labelled 'Not Copied Items' which can be found to the left of where your tracks are displayed within TouchCopy. If you select this TouchCopy will display a list of all the tracks which did not copy. If you then press the 'Copy to iTunes' button, TouchCopy will re-attempt to copy only those songs.

Can TouchCopy \"Restore\" music from backup DVD's that had been made or \"BackedUp\" from an earlier version of iTunes to the current iTunes? The backuped music can be played as long as the DVD is in the drive, but they cannot be transferred to iTunes.

The Restore function seems to have been eliminated on the current iTunes.

Thank you!

@Peter Unfortunately TouchCopy only copies music from your iPod or iOS device and is not able to restore music from a CD or DVD. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
